I thought I would post a few more photos of the trip to Galveston in June.
These pictures of a freeway in Houston were unbelievable. The construction of a huge section of freeway that would go over the top of the freeway we were on – really surprised me. Wow – how was this possible and why was it necessary.
I thought we were going straight up into the sky – so we could just fly away. My 17 year old granddaughter was driving us through Houston and she was doing a fantastic job. She is already a very good driver.
The number of oil refineries around Houston are unbelievable.
Houses on stilts with many stairs to climb are all over the island that Galveston sits on.
House were built in inlets – where the owners could boat directly from their homes – into the Gulf of Mexico. Parking for cars was under the houses and stairs led to the second floor where the living area was.
Shops in Galveston were on stilts near the ocean. Underneath these buildings were great shady areas to sit on the beach.
When we were leaving Galveston on the way toward home we drove over a bridge I chose to call the McDonald Bridge. Ha I actually expected to find a McDonald’s restaurant on a platform in the center of this bridge where we could stop for lunch.
