Fading Dreams

When I was a teenager I had dreams of what I wanted to be. Dreams of where I wanted to go.  But . . . Life got in the way!

I was watching an old rerun of the show “Kotter” from the late 1980s.

The song from that show keeps drifting through my mind.

“Welcome Back – Your dreams were your ticket out.

Welcome back to the same old place that you laughed about.

Well the names have all changed since you hung around,

But those dreams have remained and they’ve turned around.

Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back!”

Do you think the character Vinnie (what a head of hair)  – alias John Travolta – had dreams that changed in the last few decades?

I have no regrets of the life I lived.  Yet, dreams of roads untraveled still plague my thoughts; after all these years.  Despite unfulfilled dreams my life has been quite fulfilling – thus far.  How about your dreams?  Is there time to fulfill some of those dreams from your youth?

The two unfulfilled dreams of careers, that I regret not pursuing, sound so corny now.    They are total opposites of each other and the secret of what they are will remain hidden.  (Don’t worry – they are not bad – just silly)

  1. Lots of things I should have done but didn’t. Some because I was too young to see they weren’t too good to be true. Other times I feel the LORD has lead me to where He wanted me to be. If I had picked all the other dreams maybe I wouldn’t be in the blessed position I am in now? Some could look at my life and say, you could have had more, done more, have more but in the end I feel abundantly blessed. But yes there will always be those things that I wonder, what if 🙂 LORD, thank You for Peggy, and thank You for continuing to use and bless her 🙂

    1. The Lord led me in the right direction. It takes time and a lot of patience on the part of our Lord to point out the right road for us to follow. Thank you always for your very good comments Margaret. IF is such a small word – that causes so much trouble!

  2. Very thought provoking post.
From the age of folks I’ve read articles about accomplishing their dreams, in many different fields from academic to nonsense, for some careers it may not be too late to give a dream a try.

  3. Sometimes just the dreaming is enough. Dreams change too-I have no desire now for some of the things I used to want. Maybe the important thing is to dream, to hope for something good. I still have dreams and I am far from young. Keep dreaming, friend.
