Small Simple Moments

I don’t need extravagant adventures in my life to make me happy.  What makes me content are the small, simple, moments in life.  Extreme moments fade, but small daily pleasures that cross my path bring me joy.

When I relax at the end of each day – tranquil, comforting moments are what make me smile or laugh.  A friend told me a joke that I truly thought was funny.  “Why was the cat so small?  Because it only drank condensed milk.”

I sent my friend a card telling her I was thinking of her.  The next time I saw her I received a smile and a big hug.  She said, “You always make me smile and laugh.  You always lift my mood and make me happy.” I knew she always did the same for me.

Taking my camera out to view nature and capturing some fantastic photos thrills my soul.  How could anyone possibly be unhappy when God blesses us with such a beautiful world to enjoy.

I love visiting friends and talking face to face.  A visit from my daughter or granddaughter brightens my entire day.  In this age of technology – physical human interaction is something we all should seek to do more.

Sitting in the lawn swing in the evening discussing the events of the day with my husband is very enjoyable. We sit and look at the garden trying to grow; despite the tremendous amount of rain we have had lately.  Half of the garden has washed away.

The bluebirds entertain me switching their nest between two bird houses we have placed very far apart.  They have switched their nest material from one to the other three times now.  I laugh – perhaps this is a pair of young bluebirds who need a few years of practice on how to raise a family.  Nope – an infestation of ants.  Tangle Foot around the pole and the ants go elsewhere.

Our blueberries create  a lot of work for us at this time of the year.  But until you have eaten blueberries right off the bush – you don’t know what you are missing.

So give me the small, simplistic, enjoyable pleasures that daily life throws at me.  After all life should be filled with laughs and an occasional joke: “What animal has more lives than a cat? . . .  A frog – it croaks every night.”  And I do hear the tree frogs croaking right now – as the lightening bugs light up the night.

Smile at the end of your day and thank God for the quiet, peaceful, happy moments that fill the days of your life.  These small moments help us get through the rough patches.

Psalm 113:3  From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the Lord’s name is to be praised.

  1. A wonderful reminder to focus on what matters in life, those who you care for, and to appreciate the small, simple things we can often be too busy or too stressed to notice and take joy in. I’ve become far more aware and appreciative of these simple moments too since living with illness, it’s made me change my focus a lot and now it’s the small things that carry great importance and create a smile. Beautiful post 🙂

    1. Thank you for all your nice comments. The simple moments are more precious to me since I became ill with fibromyalgia two decades ago. Taking each day hour by hour -as you well know – is all I can do.

  2. This brief article says a lot about who you are and what you enjoy. Not only do enjoy the small and simple things in life, you have learned how to describe how they make you feel. You have an attractive blog that recommends you to your readers.

  3. It’s definitely the little things that make each day special. We picked strawberries in Cabot during my last visit South. Nothing like a fresh strawberry warmed by the sun. We won’t pick ours here in Wisconsin until July.
